Our first graders are looking forward to our next “stay” trip, this Friday! If you are available, please join us to help the kiddos with set-up, painting, and clean-up. There is no charge for chaperones to attend.
We’ve recently starting taking weekly spelling tests in our CKLA Skills curriculum. Make sure to practice these words nightly as well as continuing to read our decodable stories that go home. Remember that practice makes permanent! We are working hard in class to make sure that our students are able to read fluently. The spelling skills that we are learning go hand-in-hand with our students being able to decode what they are reading.
As we move into a new unit for our CKLA Knowledge curriculum, please take a moment to review the “parent homework” that goes home which has some important tips for how you can practice and review what we are learning in class at home.
We hope that the Eureka Math homework helpers have been helpful! Students have been learning how to add by making a ten. We are now moving on to subtracting from teen numbers by taking away from a ten. All these skills are to help develop mental math skills that will make them fluent in addition and subtraction skills.
We are moving on to Science skills for the remainder of the 9 weeks. We will be learning about Earth and space. To help with this, you and your child can go outside at various times of the day and/or night and take notice to how the sun and/or moon seem to travel across the sky. Take notice to where your shadows are and to the location of the sun. How does the sun affect your shadows?
