Welcome to 2nd Grade! We’ve had an amazing start to the 2018-2019 school year. Students have settled in to their new classrooms and continue to work hard demonstrating school-wide Blue Jay expectations.
We began the year in Math with strategies to add and subtract numbers and improved our measurement skills. This month, we will focus on reading and writing numbers in various forms (standard, expanded, word), explore place value, and order numbers in different forms. In Reading, we started the year with fairy tales and tall tales and finished with early Asian civilizations. The students enjoyed both the fiction and non-fiction stories, ranking The Beauty and the Beast as a favorite. We were able to expand our knowledge of other cultures and gain a deeper understanding of other practices that originated in early Asian civilizations. This month, we will dive into ancient Greek civilizations and Greek myths. We continue to alternate between Social Studies in Science. In Social Studies, students have learned about U.S. symbols, the importance of technology, and improved their Geography skills. We kicked off Science with the properties of matter.
We would like to thank everyone who attended Parent Spend a Day. It was wonderful working alongside all of you, and we look forward to an awesome year! Please make sure to check out the October calendar to see some important dates. (Fall Break, Fall Fest, Early Dismissal, etc.).
