Our field trip to Rivertown Planetarium was a success! The third graders had a fabulous time, and we know they are looking forward to our next New Orleans themed field trip in February.
When we return from break, the third graders will be working on the following in the third nine weeks:
Social Studies – the settlements of the Acadians. The students will learn how they came to live in Louisiana and what they contributed to our unique heritage.
ELA – students are finishing up reading about the acquisition of the Louisiana Territory. After, we will now change our focus to folktales. Students will develop an understanding of American history and Cajun cultures as well as compare and contrast characters. They will write stories using related texts and information gained throughout the unit.
Math – We will introduce and work on finding the area of a given shape in module 4, and then move on to fractions in module 5.
Science – January starts our new unit on animal adaptations and fossils.
Please check out the January calendar for important dates, and make sure you are signing the red folder nightly as well as the white folder on Wednesdays.
