The kindergarten students closed out 2018 with lots of new knowledge in their brains.
In our Core Knowledge Skills lessons, students continue to read one-syllable short vowel CVC words with greater ease. We also introduced the plural –s and some “tricky spellings” like when s sounds like /z/. Students are enjoying reading decodable text in class and for you at home. We have learned the name of all of our lower case letters, as well as producing the corresponding sound of each. They are on their way to being great readers!
In our CKLA Knowledge curriculum, we learned about Native Americans. We compared and contrasted information about different tribes. We also worked to retell events in stories about Native Americans. Our next unit will be on Kings and Queens!
In math, we have quickly moved through measurement. We compared items by size, length, height, weight and capacity. Next will be composing and decomposing numbers up to 5.
The Kindergarten classes are looking forward to our celebration of our 100th day of school which will be coming up at the end of January!
